Hi, there!

My personal bits!

If you haven't already guessed, my name is Ken, and I am beyond the age when life begins, but who cares?  There's still life left in what was an old Sea-Dog, yet!

I live in Wisbech,  North Cambridgeshire.  Born in Tottenham, London, but adopted when I was 3 years old in Bolton, Lancashire.  After the war, my adopted parents moved to Wallasey, Merseyside.  I went to school at St. Georges, Wallasey, Kingsmead,  Hoylake and Wallasey Tech., New Brighton.
(See my Searching for Family Page)

One summer, due to my father's work, my folks decided to up and move down here to the Fens, just outside Wisbech, from where I went to school at Wymondham College, near Norwich.  The school itself used to be an American Army Hospital during the War and consisted of Nissen huts.  They were only supposed to be there for 5 years, but I believe some of them are still there.  Had a great time there though.

I  then joined the Royal Navy at 15½.  I enjoyed most of my time, travelling around the world, seeing and visiting places that most people have never even heard of, even these days.  Some, like the Seychelles and Maldives were not even thought of as holiday destinations in those days and were unspoilt.  After my service in the RN had finished, I had a couple of jobs ashore before going back to sea in the Merchant Navy and oil rigs.  Most of my time was spent out in the West Indies, Far East and the Mediterranean.  Really loved the sea and tropical climates. Oh!  I wish had been to even more places - and stayed there!
But more of my time at sea on another page.

This days, I don't do too much.  I had to pack in work in July 2000 due to ill health .... Diabetes.  I had been an HGV driver on and of for several  years and when I was diagnosed diabetic, I had my HGV Licence revoked.  As  a result, I found myself high and dry with not a lot to do.  I got to thinking what I could do and remembered something that happened while I was an IT Lecturer at out local college.  I remembered a lot of folk, mainly over 40, wanted to learn the basics of using a computer, so I put an advert in the local paper to teach folk at home on their own machine. I finally retired in 2005.

I have been on my own since 1989 and have two sons..
Andrew, who is an auto-electrician, installing immobilisers, audio systems, tracking systems, generally sorting out problems and getting folk on the move again.  At present though, he is working as a freelance auto electrical contractor and working on rewiring Merlin helicopters

Nathan, was at University in Cambridge.  He has a Bachelors Degree in Sports Science and is at present studying for a Master's Degree at Edinburgh University.  Mad on rugby and has a part time job with Edinburgh Rugby Club as a Graduation Assistant and has signed up with EURFC.
